Aquarium Drunkard Presents: Brothers
At times ubiquity can breed, if not contempt, a kind of familiarity one instinctively feels the need to reject. If the state of Georgia, God bless it, had a 'state rock 'n roll band' I'd wager the Allman Brothers were it. Their music seemed to be everywhere - the radio, Braves games, over the PA at the grocery store, your dad's stereo. So, naturally, Hüsker Dü, Fugazi, Pixies - anything non-Southern - called out to me as a 14 year old like a Siren. And then, my freshman year of college, I left the South. And almost immediately only wanted to listen to the Brothers. That year was my first realization that you have to step away from something to really understand it, to appreciate it.
This playlist is for my buddy Ryan. Nice shirt, pal.
