Aquarium Drunkard Presents: Texas
As the media won't let us forget, this month marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of president John Fitzgerald Kennedy. JFK, the 35th President of the United States, was gunned down at 12:30 pm CST on Friday, November 22, 1963. Almost immediately, rumors began to swirl of talk of a cover up - that of a high level government conspiracy. Suddenly everyone was suspect, from the CIA to Castro. And while the Warren Commission concluded that one Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the shooting, polls show that most Americans believe (and the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations agrees) otherwise.
This is all a long walk, for a short glass of beer, to say that this week's playlist focuses on Texas music. It's a huge state - massive. As such, no one 20-track playlist could possibly represent the Lone Star's many flavors. Here, we focus on the Americana, roots-rock and vintage C&W palette. From Texas institutions like Willie Nelson, Doug Sahm and Townes Van Zandt to San Antonio young guns, Hacienda, and beyond.
