Celebrate Cassette Store Day with the Ramones

If you visit Rhino.com on even a semi-regular basis, then you almost certainly already know about Record Store Day, but are you familiar with Cassette Store Day? Yes, it’s really a thing. In fact, it’s tomorrow, and to show our support for the event, we’re offering up a limited-edition release for the festivities: a new cassette release of the Ramones’ self-titled album. After all, it’s the 40th anniversary of the album, so we felt like it was the least we could do.

Why the nostalgia for cassettes? Hey, why not? The younger you are, the less likely you are to remember this, but once upon a long ago, before CDs were a thing, cassettes were a perfectly viable medium for listening to music, particularly when it came to listening to music in your car. (Have you ever tried listening to an LP in your car? We don’t advise it.) Granted, once CDs came around, the sound quality was so much better that cassettes went the way of the 8-track tape, but we can’t even go down that road right now. Check back with us on 8-Track Tape Store Day.

For now, why not go back and listen to that first Ramones album again? If you don’t have a cassette player, we’re happy to provide you with a link to stream it via Spotify, but for those of you who do still get a thrill from cassettes, make the most of tomorrow by heading to CassetteStoreDay.com for all the details about participating stores and exclusive releases.
