Doing a 180: MC5, High Time

Rhino has made it a point to reissue classic albums on 180-gram vinyl on a regular basis. This is the latest to get that treatment. You're welcome.

The MC5 would have been rock legends if they’d only offered up their classic “Kick Out the Jams” and then disappeared forever, but as it happens, they continued recording beyond that immortal track and released other material as well. High Time was the band’s second studio album and third overall release, and while it wasn’t what you’d call a commercial smash, it has remained a critical favorite and, indeed, was described by Rolling Stone as “the first record that comes close to telling the tale of their legendary reputation and attendant charisma.” Unfortunately, it was also the last record the band would release during their heyday, owing to various personal problems in the various members’ lives, but with songs like “Sister Anne,” “Baby Won’t Ya,” and closer “Skunk (Sonicly Speaking),” it’s still an absolute must-hear for anyone who’s ever had an interest in the MC5, and now that it’s available on 180-gram vinyl, even those who’ve already heard it should listen again to confirm just how much better it sounds.
