Doing a 180: The Cars, The Elektra Years 1978 - 1987

Rhino has made it a point to reissue classic albums on 180-gram vinyl on a regular basis. This is the latest to get that treatment. You're welcome.

If you’ve started to think that 2016 must be the Year of the Cars, this is completely understandable: over the course of the past six months, we’ve released The Elektra Years: 1978-1987, a collection of the Cars’ six studio albums, both digitally and on CD, and we’ve also released Moving in Stereo: The Best of the Cars, an 18-track compilation which covers not only the aforementioned Elektra years but also the band’s 2011 album Move Like This. (Not covered: the short-lived New Cars era. But, hey, you can’t have everything.)

When we released Moving in Stereo, we did so digitally, on CD, and on vinyl, too. We did not, however, issue The Elektra Years on vinyl…until now.

Yes, that’s right, you can now enjoy the collected work of The Cars as recorded between 1978 and 1987 on luxurious 180-gram vinyl…and, as ever, this is our cue to make sure that you haven’t forgotten exactly what album releases fell within that particular window of time.

The Cars (1978): featuring the singles “Just What I Needed,” “My Best Friend’s Girl,” “Good Times Roll,” and “I’m Not the One” Candy-O (1979): featuring the singles “Let’s Go,” “It’s All I Can Do,” and “Double Life” Panorama (1980): featuring the singles “Touch and Go,” “Don’t Tell Me No,” and “Gimme Some Slack” Shake It Up (1981): featuring the singles “Shake It Up,” “Cruiser,” “Since You’re Gone,” “Victim of Love,” and “Think It Over” Heartbeat City (1984): featuring the singles “You Might Think,” “Magic,” “Drive,” “Hello Again,” “Why Can’t I Have You,” and the title track Door to Door (1987): featuring the singles “You Are the Girl,” “Strap Me In,” and “Come Up You”

In short, it’s a lot of good music, it’s going to sound better than ever when you place it gingerly upon your turntable, and it’s out now. What are you waiting for? Get in your car and go get a copy!
