Happy 25th: Little Texas, FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

25 years ago today, Little Texas released their debut album, an LP which established the band as a force to be reckoned with on the country charts.

Founded in 1988 in – you guessed it – Texas, the beginnings of the band that came to be known as Little Texas started in 1983, when Porter Howell and Duane Propes met in high school and forged a friendship that led them to both attend Belmont University in Nashville. In 1984, Tim Rushlow and Dwayne O’Brien started playing together in Arlington, Texas, while Brady Seals and Del Gray were keeping busy in the backing band of country singer Josh Logan. Eventually, all of these individuals joined forces and starting playing together as Little Texas, earning themselves a Warner Brothers record deal in 1989.

Little Texas’s first single, “Some Guys Have All the Love” earned the band their first top-10 hit on Billboard’s Country Singles chart, hitting #5. By the time their debut album, FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING, had run its course, the band had a gold record and had earned not only a second top-10 country hit – “You and Forever and Me” (#8) – but three top-20 hits as well: “First Time for Everything” (#13), “What Were You Thinkin’” (#17), and “I’d Rather Miss You” (#16).

If you need further proof that Little Texas had hit the big time, here it is: when they released their sophomore album, it hit #6 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and went double platinum. Of course, they didn’t know it was going to be that successful when they decided to call the album BIG TIME, so it’s a good thing it worked out!
