Limited Edition Tina Turner Barbie Doll Released by Mattel
It's the meeting of the American icons: music legend Tina Turner, and legendary doll, Barbie. Mattel has just released a new Barbie doll version of Tina Turner, styled in the fashion the singer displayed in the music video for huge 1984 comeback single, "What's Love Got to Do with It." It's the latest edition to the brand’s Barbie Signature Music Series.
This collectible, posable Tina Turner Barbie doll wears a black mini dress paired with a denim jacket, sheer black tights and black heels. Her signature hairstyle, drop earrings and a microphone accessory complete her look.
“I am honored to welcome my Barbie into the group of trailblazing women already represented and introduce more kids to my journey,” Turner said in a press statement.
Back in 1984, Turner's career was on life support while she was recording what would become the blockbuster Private Dancer album. After divorcing husband Ike Turner, the singer had released a couple of solo albums as she worked tirelessly to get her life and music back on track.
"What's Love Got to Do with It" was the key. The breakout single, released on May 1, 1984, made Tina Turner a global superstar, and still stands as her biggest song. When the dust settled, Billboard would rank it as the #2 song of the year, behind only Prince's "When Doves Cry."
