For the follow-up to his Past, Present and Future album, Al Stewart focused on Modern Times, and it's here that the British singer-songwriter truly hit his stride. “Carol,” “Sirens Of Titan,” “What's Going On?” and five more originals feature ambitious narratives and resonant melodies, and Alan Parson's rich production provides the perfect setting for these jewels. Recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios, the 1975 collection blends folk-rock, pop and progressive music with the same skill as Stewart's more famous Year Of The Cat. Though it's now 40 years old, Modern Times has a lush sound and ruminative air that gives it a timeless appeal.
