Now Available: Grateful Dead, July 1978: The Complete Recordings
In the long and storied history of the Grateful Dead, it’s fair to say that the band had quite a few years which might be up for contention in the field of Best Year Ever, but if you put it to a vote amongst Deadheads, you’d almost certainly find a strong showing from 1978. This stands to reason: they released Shakedown Street, they played over 80 shows, and of those 80 shows, three of them were their legendary performances at Egypt’s famed pyramids of Gizah.

Limited to 15,000 individually numbered copies, this 12-CD set features – among other performances – three soundboard recordings from July 1, 3, and 5, 1978 which have never before been in circulation, along with the official debut of the Dead’s first-ever performances at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Plus, just in case you’re not one of those first 15,000 purchasers, the 7/8/18 Red Rocks performance is available as a 3-cd set here.
