Out Tomorrow: David Bowie, “Heroes” 7”

On September 23, David Bowie’s “Heroes” will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its original release, and to honor the occasion, we're continuing our ongoing Bowie picture-disc series by reissuing the song as a limited-edition 7” single.

In this instance, “Heroes” will be both the A-side and the B-side of the single, but for the latter side, you’ll be getting a live performance of the song on Marc Bolan’s ITV series, Marc, which was the first time Bowie had ever played the song publicly, making it a very special performance indeed.

In case you’ve been mulling this over in your head, yes, we know that we’re releasing the picture-disc a day before the single’s actual anniversary. Thing is, we don’t generally release things on Saturdays, so we figured we’d offer up the single a day early, and then if it’ll feel more appropriate, you can wait and buy your copy on Saturday. If you’re going to do that, though, there’s a very important thing to remember: this is a limited-edition single, so if you wait, you could find yourself without a single. Honestly, though, it’s okay if you buy it a day before the anniversary. We’re pretty sure David Bowie would understand.

And with that said, we thought we’d offer you a few additional takes on “Heroes” to hold you over until the single gets here.

First up, we’ve got two versions from Rhino’s catalog:

TV on the Radio (2008): Listen here
Scala & Kolacny Brothers (2016): Listen here

Beyond that, we don’t really know how many of these you’ll find yourself checking out from start to finish, but we figured it was at least worth offering them up for curiosity’s sake.
