Rhino Factoids: David Bowie Gets a Star, Man

18 years ago today, David Bowie was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work as a recording artist.

We certainly remember when the event took place – as you might guess, we generally keep an eye out when musicians are recognized for their efforts on the Walk of Fame – but just in case you don’t, the star came just on the heels of Bowie releasing his 1997 album, Earthling, with the ceremony taking place the day after he made an appearance on The Tonight Show. Still, even though we remember the event fondly, we have to admit that we had to double-check just to make sure that was the only thing he was honored for. He’s also done a bit of time as an actor, you know, and in addition to his work as a thespian, you might be surprised at how much of his music has ended up on soundtracks over the years.

In fact, here’s a thought: why don’t we give you a frame of reference? We went through IMDb and culled all of the Bowie performances that appeared in films that made at least one million dollars at the US box office, and we also made sure that we included any soundtracks for which Bowie was predominantly responsible, even if those films didn’t crack a million bucks. The end result: a 52-song playlist, which you can check out below.
