Woodstock Wednesday
Hey, everybody, it’s Woodstock Wednesday! Why? Because it’s the day of the week that starts with the same letter as one of the most iconic music festivals of all time. What, like we would’ve gone with Woodstock Thursday? That’s just silly!
But, hey, since it is Woodstock Wednesday, let’s take a moment and talk about the fact that this year marks the 50th anniversary of that legendary festival. To celebrate the occasion, Rhino is releasing a very limited-edition set – like, we’re only putting out 1,969 copies of it (see what we did there?) – that will be the end-all and be-all of Woodstock sets.
It’s called WOODSTOCK: BACK TO THE GARDEN – THE DEFINITIVE 50TH ANNIVERSARY ARCHIVE, and it consists of 38 discs and 432 tracks, 267 of which have never been officially released before. But that’s just the CDs: you also get a Blu-ray copy of the film Woodstock, a replica of the original concert program, a guitar strap, two Woodstock posters, a reprint of a diary written by an attendee during the festival, two 8x10 prints from photographer Henry Diltz, essays by Zax, Jesse Jarnow, and Ellen Sander, and a copy of Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music, written by Michael Lang, one of the festival's co-creators. Plus, the whole thing comes in a screen-printed plywood box with a canvas insert inspired by the stage set-up of the show!
Mind you, this set doesn’t come out until August 2. But we do have a couple of other things that are coming out this Friday:
- WOODSTOCK - BACK TO THE GARDEN - 50TH ANNIVERSARY EXPERIENCE, which features 162 tracks across 10 CDs and is the first Woodstock collection to feature live recordings of every performer at the festival
- WOODSTOCK - BACK TO THE GARDEN - 50TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION, which includes 42 tracks and will be available as both 3-CD and 5-LP sets.
And, yes, since we know you’re wondering, the 10-disc version will also be available via digital download.
Want to see what’s going to be in these sets? The full track listings are below!
