CONTRIBUTING WRITERS
BRIAN CHIN has documented dance music and pop since 1978 in such publications as Billboard, Record World, the Village Voice, the New York Post, London's Music Week, Music Business International, and Record Mirror. He has done A&R for Profile and Chemistry/PWL while developing and annotating compilations for Rhino, PolyGram, Sony, EMI, and K-Tel, among others. He frequently acts as a consultant for labels on product research and development.
BARRY WALTERS regularly contributes pop culture commentary to Spin, the Advocate, and the Village Voice. For over eight years he was the pop music writer for the San Francisco Examiner. In 1992 he became the first critic to win an award from the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. He has lectured about music video at several film festivals and his definitive Sylvester story appears in The Faber Book Of Pop. He's still searching for the San Francisco immortalized by the Village People.
MICHAEL FREEDBERG covers pop music for the Boston Phoenix and dance music for Tower Pulse! and the Village Voice. His writings have appeared in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Crawdaddy, and Phonograph. Today he collaborates on reissues and compilations of disco from the classic era. He is still an avid fan of Eurodance and house music.
TIM LAWRENCE, based in London, has written for the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Independent, the New Statesman, Social Text, and Third Text. He is currently completing a book on the definitive history of dance music for Duke University Press.
