Eric Clapton with guitar
This picture of Eric Clapton was, I believe, from '68, and it was taken up at Mama Cass' house from The Mamas And Papas. She was a great one to get people together. And she had met Eric Clapton somewhere, and he was in town and he didn't really know anybody, so she said, "Well, why don't you come to my house; we'll have a little backyard picnic." She invited Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Micky Dolenz, and my partner Gary Burden and I. And we all went up there and Joni, David, and Clapton sat around playing guitars under the white birch trees, and Micky filmed, and I photographed. And we had a nice lunch. And he was very shy; he hardly talked to anybody, even though the picnic was in his honor. It was more or less to introduce him to people so he'd know a few people in town. That was the first day I met him.
