Life with Paul and Linda McCartney

This picture of Paul and Linda was done in '71, I believe. Linda, who was an old friend and fellow photographer from New York, called me this day and said "Can you come out to our Malibu beach house and take some photos for a songbook." They had just finished recording the Ram album. And since she had played on it and was involved in the album, they needed photos of the two of them, not just Paul -- she had to be in the pictures so she couldn't take them. When we were through taking the pictures they said "Now we want to see these first thing in the morning, because we want to try to pick out something to put on the cover of Life magazine." And so I brought 'em back the next morning and they picked this one photo out of all of them. In the other room the lady from Life was waiting; she took this transparency, drove to the airport, got on a plane, and went to Life. It had to be printed in black and white because there wasn't time to do it in color. This was in the days before Fed-Ex, of course -- or scanning them; it could've been done in minutes now!
