| ![]() Monterey International Pop FestivalHere we have Ravi Shankar at the Monterey Pop Festival, which was '67. That was up in Monterey California, and of course was the big festival where the Northern California bunch got together with the Southern California bunch and changed the music industry -- because all these big record company moguls went up there and signed people left and right. The energy was amazing at that. Ravi Shankar was a huge hero of everybody in the '60s and throughout Laurel Canyon you would hear Ravi Shankar being played from so many record players as you drove up. He just personified that Indian psychedelic feeling, you know, of people tripping on a sunny afternoon. Everybody was so respectful of his music, and it was just a hush as he played; you could hear a pin drop. Everybody was just mesmerized by it (probably meditating). ::next |
