Osmond Camera Malfunction

Here’s one that’s really good for a slide show. I was taking pictures of the Osmond Brothers for teenybopper magazines, which I did a lot of back in the ‘70s (this one is ’73). Something happened internally in the camera -- I don’t even know how this technically can happen, a malfunction of some kind -- but it’s got a shaft of light through it. The light went right through Donny’s head and he’s making an expression like it tickles or something. I thought, “Wow, this is kind of a spiritual picture, this shaft of light coming down from heaven and making Donny laugh.” I just love when something totally mysterious like that happens in a picture. In the old days slides would come back and the last picture on the roll would very often be half a frame. But they would mount it up anyway as a slide and it very often had a purple line right where the end of the film was. And if that purple line went through somebody, I would consider that a magic thing – they were touched by “the purple ray.” In this case it was sort of the same thing, but it was not the last picture in the roll and this was kind of a white light ray that came down.
