![]() Curtis MayfieldThis is right before he had his tragic accident. I remember falling in love with his music in Superfly, and later he played an old country and western club in the Valley, The Palomino. In the final days of The Palomino they had all kinds of acts in there, not just country. When Curtis Mayfield played there, I was in the dressing room after the show and he had put his guitar on his shoulder and was about to walk out the door. People had written graffiti on the wall and this one said: “Preoccupied and dedicated to the preservation of the motion of the hips.” Which I thought sounded kinda like his music, so I said “Oh, let me take a picture of you by that.” He didn’t write that, but it seemed to fit and he really liked it and pointed his thumb at it and I took the picture there. The other one says “Drinks in dressing room are for tonight’s performers only. Wives, girlfriends, and others please drink at the bar.” ::next |
