![]() Truman CapoteTruman Capote was a literary hero of mine. One day Rolling Stone called me while I was in my kitchen up in Laurel Canyon and said “What are you doing today? Could you get on a plane and fly to Palm Springs and take a picture of Truman Capote? We need it for the cover.” So I jumped up, went to the airport, and in a couple of hours I was in HIS kitchen. We spent the afternoon talking and taking photos. He went and put this hat on, and then he got a colored scarf to put on; that was the Rolling Stone cover. This was not the cover, but it’s a great picture of Truman Capote. It was quite amazing to spend an afternoon with a hero like that. Suddenly, just out of the blue without any anticipation or planning. He was very gracious; a very nice guy -- the only time I ever saw or talked to him. ::back |
