Elvis Costello
Elvis Costello in '79. He was playing at a concert venue somewhere in L.A. The reason I went to this Elvis show was that his drummer, Pete Thomas, had played with my group, The Modern Folk Quartet, in the middle-'70s. We had done a whole series of shows at The Icehouse and some other clubs in California and he was our drummer. He was more of a folk drummer then; he had real long hair. When he left our group, he went back to England and cut his hair real short and suddenly he turned up playing drums with Elvis Costello, and he has all the years since. So he'd invited me to this show and gotten me a photo pass. I'd never met Elvis before, but I got to shoot all these pictures of that show.
