Rhino Goes To The 'Mats With A Dozen Classic Tracks Sampled From The Legendary Band's Four Early '80s Twin/Tone Releases...

The Replacements' raucous legend began with four seminal releases on the independent Twin/Tone label in Minneapolis, where the group's founding line-up-lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Paul Westerberg, Chris Mars (drums) and Bob and Tommy Stinson (guitar and bass, respectively)-were brought together by the siren call of noises exploding out of neighboring basements. Twin/Tone co-founder Peter Jesperson, the 'Mats' original manager and producer of the reissues, says that upon first taking in their original demo, “I could hardly believe my ears...It sounded like a wild reinterpretation of the fundamentals of rock--like Chuck Berry, the Stones and the Sex Pistols all rolled into one.” Dare to hear the best of this signature blend of indelible brilliance and bleary drunken anarchy here, with selections from The Replacements' 1981 debut Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash, the 1981 EP Stink, 1983's Hootenanny and 1984's epic Let It Be, the “wonderfully open souled...masterpiece” (Spin) and “brilliant rock & roll album” (Rolling Stone) that's #3 on Blender's list of the “100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums Ever.”
