With Jamiroquai's grooves, Beck's sense of humor, and D'Angelo's raw magnetism, Har Mar Superstar is an R&B dream team of one. He may lack the mad cash and six-pack abs of the mainstream heavies, but he does possess a killer falsetto and good taste in briefs. Born Sean Tillman in St. Paul, Minnesota, Har Mar dropped his first cuts with the noise-pop band Calvin Krime in the late '90s. Now he takes his show on the road with the likes of The Strokes and Incubus. Late last year Warner released his second album, You Can Feel Me, and the attendant buzz has since carried him into the pages of the big rock press.
We at Rhino/WSM, joined by our friends from the other Warner labels in the building, witnessed a sweaty lunchtime performance that would've sent the health inspector clamoring for the clipboard. Crooning and grinding his way through several soul-stompers, including his single "Power Lunch" and Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke," Har Mar turned noshing into one sexed-up affair.
