Wednesday, November 23, 2016
27 years ago today, Happy Mondays made their debut on Top of the Pops. It was an interesting turn of events for the Mondays, who – despite having been touring for five years at that point in their career – were extremely anxious about making their debut on a TV series they’d grown up watching. In addition, the Stone Roses were also on the same episode, and the two bands had found themselves in a bit of a rivalry, to the point where the Roses’ manager reportedly warned them to watch their drinks, lest the Mondays try to spike them! According to a piece on SabotageTimes.com, when the two bands

Out Now: TRAINSPOTTING: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE (Article)
Friday, November 11, 2016
If you were a fan of the 1996 film adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel Trainspotting, you’re not the only one. It’s a funny, frantic, and occasionally horrifying tale of friendship and drug addiction that helped cement the reputation of Danny Boyle as a great director and helped turn Ewan McGregor into a proper movie star. With the film’s sequel – yes, it’s called Trainspotting 2 – at long last completed and finally set to hit theaters in early 2017, Rhino has dipped into the archives to reissue TRAINSPOTTING: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE on vinyl. If the reputation of the film itself has

Doing a 140: Jim Croce and Urban Cowboy (Article)
Friday, November 4, 2016
Okay, okay, we know “Doing a 140” doesn’t have even remotely the same ring as “Doing a 180,” but what can we tell you? These particular reissues are on 140-gram vinyl rather than 180-gram vinyl, so we felt like it was better to be factual. It’s just the right thing to do, you know? (Also, it’s the legal thing to do, so there’s that as well.) Happy Anniversary: Daryl Hall & John Oates, WAR BABIES (Article)
Wednesday, October 19, 2016
42 years ago today, Daryl Hall and John Oates released the album that confused their fans and concluded their contract with Atlantic Records, but it was also their first album to hit the Billboard 200 and was later described by Ahmet Ertegun as one of the “great moments in the history of the label.” As you can see, WAR BABIES is definitely a unique entry in Hall & Oates’ back catalog, and it’s one that earned a rather nasty response from a portion of the duo’s fanbase which Hall describes as “the gingerbread eaters.” “When John and I first started, we played a lot of folk clubs and small

Rhino Factoids: When Joni Met Morrissey (Article)
Tuesday, October 18, 2016

You can read the entire interview on Mitchell’s website by clicking right here, but here are our five favorite moments from the conversation: 1. In what can only be described as a moment of Morrissey being Morrissey, he kicked off the interview by pointedly bringing up a few past occasions when Rolling Stone wrote terrible things about Mitchell, including their less-than-positive treatment of THE HISSING OF
