This Day in ’70: Judy Collins at the Trial of the Chicago 7 (Article)
Wednesday, January 23, 2019
49 years ago today, Judy Collins caused a completely ridiculous courtroom controversary in the midst of the trial of the so-called Chicago 7. Being as she was friends with both Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin and appeared at their press conference to announce the beginning of the Yippie Movement, Collins appeared in court to speak on their behalf. In the process of doing so, however, she broke into “Where Have All The Flowers Gone,” at which point she was interrupted. In honor of the day Vincent Damon Furnier – yes, that’s Alice’s real name – was first welcomed into the world, we thought we’d take a look back at an album in his discography which wasn’t a tremendous hit upon its initial release, possibly because its title has a tendency to create a mental image which makes most people cringe and/or shudder. Released in 1982, ZIPPER CATCHES SKIN – we’ll pause for the requisite reaction –

R.I.P. Peter Tork (Article)
Thursday, February 21, 2019
In 1968, he became the first member of The Monkees to bid the band adieu. Now, at the age of 77, Peter Tork has become the second member of the band to whom we must bid farewell. Per The New York Times, Tork’s death was confirmed by his son, Ivan Iannoli, who said the cause was complications of a rare form of cancer that was first diagnosed in 2009, but a more emotional confirmation – one that we can all surely appreciate – came via a post on Tork’s official Facebook page: “It is with beyond-heavy and broken hearts that we share the devastating news that our friend, mentor, teacher, and
