ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?! Of course you are. And if you’re not, then it’s your own fault: we’ve been telling you about the return of Rhino’s Rocktober for two weeks now. You know, a lot of labels would just say, “I don’t even think you can rock!” But that’s just mean. And that’s not how we roll here at Rhino. Of course, we’re still going to give your business about being such a slacker, but rather than leave you wanting, we’ll go ahead and provide you with the links to read all the details that we already posted: first click right here, and after you’ve read that, then you’ll want to click here

Be Aware: Black Friday Is Just Around The Corner (Article)
Tuesday, October 17, 2017
One of the most enjoyable holiday traditions to emerge over the course of the past few years has been the Record Store Day Black Friday event, in which labels take one of the most excruciating shopping days of the year and make it worthwhile for vinyl aficionados to brave the crowds and hit their local record retailer. This year, Rhino will be delivering 12 limited-edition releases unto record stores, and there’s some pretty cool stuff in the mix, if we do say so ourselves: Aretha Franklin With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Respect / Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)

ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?! Let’s hope so, because we’ve been trying to confirm your rocking readiness for three weeks now, and there’s not much time left for you to get ready at this point, because – brace yourself – this is the last week of Rocktober 2017. But we refuse to believe that you’re incapable of rocking, and we’re steadfast in our conviction that you will successfully manage to be ready to rock in time to take advantage of all of these amazing new vinyl reissues that have hit record store shelves – be they virtual or in the real world – since the beginning of Rocktober. Missed the

A.D. hitting stores – if you missed that announcement, you can read it by clicking right here – and when we gave you all the details on that particular release, we casually mentioned that we would actually be reissuing two Sepultura albums. In fact, we mentioned it so casually that we didn’t even make note of what that second reissue was going to be. Let’s fix that situation right now: the second reissue will be ROOTS, it’s scheduled for release on November 3, and it’s going to be tricked out with the same sort of bonus material as CHAOS A.D.. By this, we mean that there’ll be 17 bonus tracks

Single Stories: Madonna, “Justify My Love” (Article)
Monday, October 30, 2017
27 years ago today, Madonna released the single which served as one of the obligatory new tracks on her first greatest-hits collection. Written by Lenny Kravitz, Ingrid Chavez, and Madonna, “Justify My Love” was originally recorded by Chavez – she wrote the lyrics, and Kravitz and producer Andre Betts wrote the music – but when Madonna’s version was initially released, Chavez’s credit was MIA. This was remedied in an out-of-court settlement, thankfully. As for Madonna’s credit, it was reportedly earned as a result of changing a single line – that’s what Chavez said, anyway – but it’s fair to

All About Aretha – A Brand New Me: Mini-Doc and RollingStone.com Premiere (Article)
Tuesday, November 7, 2017
When critics call Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul, it isn’t just an honorary title. It’s one that was earned, and if you need proof, then you need only look at the Billboard charts throughout the 1960s and – more importantly – just listen to her output during the same period of time. In celebration of the 50 th anniversary of Aretha signing to Atlantic Records, Rhino is releasing a collection which takes the classic vocals from some of Ms. Franklin’s most iconic songs and pairs them with new arrangements with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The result: A BRAND NEW ME. To get some insight

Now Streaming: Ramones, “Why Is It Always This Way?” (Article)
Wednesday, November 8, 2017
Everyone has their flaws, but if you were to try and nail down which ones the Ramones were guilty of possessing, your resulting list likely wouldn’t feature the words “insufficiently prolific.” For proof, just take a look at their output in 1977: they released not one but two studio albums. Earlier this year, we celebrated the 40 th anniversary of the first of those two albums, LEAVE HOME, and later this month we’re celebrating the 40 th anniversary of the other one, ROCKET TO RUSSIA. On November 24 th, Rhino is issuing ROCKET TO RUSSIA: 40 TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION, a 3-CD / 1-LP set

The One after the Big One: Stone Temple Pilots, TINY MUSIC … SONGS FROM THE VATICAN GIFT SHOP (Article)
Thursday, November 9, 2017
The things that distinguished Stone Temple Pilots from their grunge brethren were two-headed song- and riff-writing monster known as the DeLeo brothers (bassist Robert and guitarist Dean) and the magnetic allure of charismatic front man Scott Weiland. The band's debut, CORE, introduced a group that could bludgeon you with the heaviness of "Sex Type Thing" or "Plush," and just as easily provide fodder for contemplation in "Creep." That pliable songcraft and performance reappeared on PURPLE, STP's sophomore effort, which hit Number One and featured "Interstate Love Song," a track that sounded at

Happy Birthday: John Rzeznick (Article)
Tuesday, December 5, 2017
You know him best as the voice of The Goo Goo Dolls, but in case you don’t know his name, it’s John Rzeznick, and today’s his birthday. To celebrate the occasions, we’re rolling out our official Goo Goo Dolls playlist, of course, but we’ve also thrown together a list of 10 cover songs performed by the Goos over the course of their long career. You’ve probably heard some of them, but unless you’ve really dug deep into their back catalog, we’re guessing you probably haven’t heard them all, so give ‘em a spin and try to have as much fun listening to them as the band had recording them. “(Don’t
