I'm old enough to have the Chicago catalog in it's original SQ vinyl & even some Q8 cartridges - since that was the only format offering "discrete" mixes of Columbia titles back in the day. When Chicago II & V were remastered & released in DVD-Audio, I snapped those immediately.
CTA will definitely be a nostalgia buy for me. Historic music, but a mix designed to circumvent the limitations of the SQ matrix format: Music placed squarely in the corners with little soundfield spread between speakers, as well as generally dry mixes since reverb could easily confuse the matrix decoder.
Still, I put up with the many shortcomings of the 8-Track cartridge format to hear this album in a surround mix, so I have no hesitation to whip out my credit card & add this disc to my collection in the hopes it will encourage Rhino to go back to the vaults & dust off some other "Quad" masters - especially from the WEA CD-4 LP collections, since their format permitted more ambitious surround mixes.

Rhino, you are my audio gods! I knew that you guys could keep the multichannel flame alive! I have pre-ordered this title and cannot wait to get my hands on it... and I will order ANY other QUAD titles you see fit to release (and Lord knows, there are plenty of good'uns in the WEA archives!).
THANK YOU for doing this, and I hope it's the first of many!

I applaud the release but I just wish they would add a stereo mix as well. There is plenty of room. I think they will find that selling to quad only will hurt. Adding high rez stereo would really help sales and cost very little.
I also would love to see this treatment (with stereo) to Joni Mitchell, especially Court and Spark.

I totally agree with Ed_Audio. Not adding a real HI-DEF stereo mix (24 bit / 96 Khz) is a missed opportunity. There are a lot of people looking for high rez audio releases (better then cd quality). I have a lot of cd's released by Rhino but will buy them again as new hi rez stereo release on DVD or blu ray (24 bit / 192 Khz). I wish Rhino would jump on that train as other parties have already done.

Thank you so much for the Quad Chicago release! All the quadheads are going nuts over the announcement of this release. This will be even more discreet than the original SQ matrix encoded album and I can't wait to hear it. Please consider releasing more quadraphonic titles in this format, especially those that were only released on reel-to-reel or quad-8, such as ZZ Tops' "Tres Hombres".
Thank you Rhino Handmade!
