Video - Everything But The Girl - Missing - Todd Terry Club Remix
“Missing” was a single from the band’s 1994 album AMPLIFIED HEART.
Vocalist Tracey Thorn and multi-instrumentalist Ben Watt met in 1982 as students at England’s Hull University and took their name from a sign in a local furniture shop. Bending ears in the independent music community with their sensual brand of jazz-pop, EBTG had their first indie hit with a samba version of Cole Porter’s “Night And Day” and entered the Top 40 two years later with “Each And Every One,” from their debut album, Eden. They stripped down their sound with 1988’s intimate Idlewild and scored another big hit with “I Don’t Want To Talk About It.”
The turning point in EBTG’s musical evolution came with a 1994 collaboration with trip-hop heavies Massive Attack, whose hit single “Protection” features Thorn’s vocals. 1994’s Amplified Heart found Watt and Thorn moving toward a sensual, club-friendly sound, and when the Todd Terry remix of “Missing” hit the decks, EBTG were established as a commercial and critical force. Their next two albums, 1996’s Walking Wounded and 1999’s Temperamental, ensured their esteemed status among club-goers and serious music fans alike.
