Singer Mark Sandman coined the phrase "low rock" to describe the sonorous, languid groove he created with the acclaimed Boston band Morphine. Sadly, the band's time together was cut short in 1999 when Sandman suffered a heart attack in Italy while onstage with Morphine and died on the way to the hospital. An double CD collection of previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions and live material. Morphine recorded an extraordinary amount of music in their short time of existence so there will most likely be even more to eventually come from their vaults. Essential listening for any fan of this band, their sound was unique and timeless.

Morphine had a subtle sound that didn't smack you in the face like a lot of other stuff in the 90's. This is a worthwhile listen which further solidifies their legacy-- the music seems to effortlessly pour out of this band, and this anthology is further evidence of their wealth of recordings-- perhaps meandering and repetitive at times, but always consistently cool.
