New Order's 1981 debut album MOVEMENT is a stirring portrait of the group searching for their own unique musical signature as they moved beyond the demise of Joy Division. Reflective, melodic and dark, it introduced seminal tracks including “Truth,” “Denial” and “Dreams Never End.” Disc One of Rhino's new 2-CD COLLECTOR'S EDITION features the newly remastered original eight-song album, while Disc Two compiles eight additional rarities including non-album singles, B-sides and alternative versions.
Bonus disc highlights include “Ceremony,” a song written but never recorded by Joy Division - New Order revisited the song and released it as their first single. Also featured are the singles “Temptation” and “Everything's Gone Green,” both of which foreshadow the band's increasingly dance-oriented direction.
Comprised of Bernard Sumner (guitar, vocals), Stephen Morris (drums), Peter Hooks (bass) and Gillian Gilbert (keyboards), Manchester, U.K.-based band New Order was formed in 1980 by the remaining members of Joy Division after lead singer Ian Curtis' suicide. They went on to develop a groundbreaking sound mixing synthesizer-driven pop, electronic dance beats and alt-rock, releasing five influential albums during the '80s that changed the course of alternative music.
