Just who is Tom Northcott? Rhino Handmade unravels the mystery with an exquisitely packaged collection that sheds light on this unheralded singer-songwriter, whose distinctive voice and wonderful artistry remain among the best-kept secrets of the 1960s.

Between 1966-69, Northcott recorded a catalog of ornate psychedelic-folk for Warner Bros. Records with producers Lenny Waronker and Leon Russell. Among those were two almost-hit singles, including his versions of Donovan’s....+Read More...

what about i think its going to rain today.....suzanne

Suzanne; Spaceship Races; I Think it's Going to Rain Today. Where are they, and why not on bonus tracks? Is there another CD in the future, or a more "deluxe" one to be issued?
Other than that, can't wait for my copy(s). It's been too long a wait already!

I can't believe I can't review this. Here's a great Canadian artist with what looks like a pretty decent release that I was all set to order but you DON'T SHIP TO CANADA ! What's with that? Why send me a release notice when you can't even ship the product to me?

Spaceship Races, Suzanne, etc. are from the 1971 LP "Upside Downside" which did not come out on Warner Brothers. As those tracks were released by UNI, they are owned by Universal now. Perhaps Hip-O Select may do a reissue of Upside Downside at some point?

Absolutely looking forward to this one as it has been quite the long wait since it was first announced. Should be a good one!!

Beautifully packaged and the sound is superb. The results are sublime. It's so nice to hear these tracks in such pristine quality. Not able to ship to Canada? That's a bummer. They sent one to me though! Thanks Rhino!

A lot of folks have waited a long time for this set but it was worth the wait. Such a gorgeous piece of packaging and the music is great. And yes it would be good to get a sister collection of TN's UNI work and whatever else is available in his catalog. However, that we have this collection is a miracle.

As far as the seal goes on the cover - cut it lightly straight across - don't press hard. It's not mean to be removed. It's probably a bit esoteric but its an old-fashioned thing that goes along with the letterpress cover. Yes the seal is cool looking but it is mean to be cut.

As a fan of 60's Warner recordings I have waited a long time to hear Tom Northcott's work, after been fed titbits on compilation albums. This collection is brilliant by an artist who was ahead of his time. His versions of songs by other distinguished artists are fresh and innovative. A real treat. My only complaint would be the packaging. The artwork is innovative but, how does one remove thw sticker without damaging the outer sleeve?

I've been dreaming of a Tom Northcott release for at least 20 years.I only have a scratchy New Syndrome LP of his music(these Warner tracks). His hit Girl from the North Country was all over AM radio in the late 60's.Major disappointment you won't sell to Canadians directly What a screwup in distribution rights! These tracks have never come out on CD in Canada and never will(demand too small).I'll have to contact my U.S. music dealers to buy me a copy. Thanks Rhino Jim Craft Saint John N.B. Canada

Pretty good Release in general, from Tom's "Middle" Period. Covers the US Releases only (which exclude the first 3 singles on New Syndrome, unfortunately, and the early 70s UNI Material (Suzanne, rain today, spaceship races etc)).

TO THOSE IN CANADA: IF RHINO COMPLETES AND SHIPS MY ORDER ON TIME, I WILL HAVE SOME STOCK AVAILABLE IN THE VANCOUVER AREA TO ANYONE LOOKING TO BUY LOCAL.
