Love Is The Song We Sing - San Francisco Nuggets 1965-1970

$64.98 CD

Available for pre-order soon!

Forty years after The Summer Of Love, Rhino is pleased to present this 4-CD boxed set of classics and rarities from the golden age of Golden State rock. Love Is The Song We Sing is the last word on one of popular music's defining regional scenes, and a worthy successor to our previous Nuggets collections.

The 77 tracks heard here trace the evolution of "The San Francisco Sound" from its mid-'60s folk rock roots (like The Beau Brummels and The Charlatans) and suburban garage band mutations (The Count Five, Frumious Bandersnatch) to the halcyon days of 1967 (Moby Grape, Jefferson Airplane) and the the freeform-FM explorations that followed (Santana, Grateful Dead). This music served as the soundtrack to one of America's most turbulent eras, but is neither history lesson nor nostalgia trip. From the famous to the obscure, these San Francisco Nuggets offer an open invitation to any listener with a taste for sonic experimentation and communal good vibes

Compiled by noted writer and reissue producer Alec Palao, Love Is The Song We Sing treats the glory years of Bay Area rock with the respect it deserves. Music from the city that gave birth to the psychedelic poster and lightshow merits an impressive visual treatment, and the hardcover coffee table book packaging here certainly qualifies. Sandwiched between a silver foil front and the four CDs in back are 120 pages featuring informative essays and detailed track info plus loads of eye-popping visuals -- including many previously unseen images from some of rock's top photographers, as well as rare concert art and memorabilia.
