DEPECHE MODEExciter$29.98 Vinyl $24.98 CD Depeche Mode's acclaimed 2001 album EXCITER blended experimentation and powerful pop instincts into its spare and emotionally resonant ambient grooves. It climbed to #8 on the Billboard 200 and introduced song classics including “When The Body Speaks,” “Freelove” and “I Feel Loved.” Rhino's two-disc CD + DVD edition features the original album in remastered stereo on the CD and DTS 5.1 (24bit/96k), Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround (24 bit) and high-resolution PCM stereo mixes - including rare bonus material - on the DVD. When the album first came out, Rolling Stone Magazine opined, “Depeche Mode's tenth studio album ranks miraculously high…from the breathless a cappella opening of "Dream On" to the closing strains of "Goodnight Lovers," Exciter maintains an otherworldly mood and purity of purpose that today's angst-ridden rockers would trade their Jeff Buckley CDs to attain.” Produced by Mark Bell (Bjork, LFO), EXCITER is a Depeche Mode highlight that underscores their longevity and unabated creative evolution. This edition's DVD disc features five PCM stereo bonus tracks, including the “Flood Mix” of “Freelove,” a full version of “Easy Tiger” and an acoustic take on “When The Body Speaks.” Also presented is “Live In Paris, October 2001,” a six-song concert recording in PCM Stereo, DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. Among the selections are vintage performances of “Breathe,” “Dream On” and “The Sweetest Condition.” The DVD also includes the specially commissioned short documentary film Depeche Mode: 1999-2002 (Featuring The Intimate And Delicate Side Of Depeche Mode), featuring band interviews and chronicling the Depeche era that generated EXCITER. The 16-page booklet includes original LP art, new photos, lyrics and liner notes by Daniel Miller. Originally rooted in the U.K.'s late '70s New Romantic movement, modern rock icons Depeche Mode first formed in 1980 with founding partners Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Vince Clarke and Andrew Fletcher. Their pioneering, synthesizer-based music made them techno-pop superstars who loomed as large as cult heroes as commercial heavies. From mesmerizing dance raves to industrial dirges, their complex and brilliant sound is that of a global phenomenon.
