ROBERTA FLACKSoftly With These Songs: The Best Of Roberta Flack (Greatest Hits)$11.98 CD 4X GRAMMY®-winning R&B legend Roberta Flack is one of the best loved vocalists in contemporary music. Her timeless, elegant and soulful sound - a favorite with pop audiences as well - is spotlighted on this essential single-disc collection of 17 classic recordings spanning the early '70s through the early '90s. Flack first topped Billboard's pop singles chart in 1972 with her definitive version of Ewan MacColl's “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (which was memorably featured as the soundtrack music backing a key scene in the Clint Eastwood film Play Misty For Me). The song, which opens this disc, also won a GRAMMY for Record Of The Year. That same award - plus a second for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - and #1 status also went to Flack's 1973 tour de force “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” another highlight. Also featured are the most famous of her duets with the late, great Donny Hathaway, “Where Is The Love,” which topped the black singles chart and climbed to #5 pop, and “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love,” a hit with Peabo Bryson, who became Flack's frequent vocal partner after Hathaway's death in 1979. Other favorites include “Set The Night To Music,” a 1991 Top 10 collaboration with Maxi Priest, and another of Flack's signature songs, “Feel Like Makin' Love,” which hit #1 on both Billboard's pop and black singles charts.
