VARIOUS ARTISTSControl (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)$18.98 CD The soundtrack to the 2007 Control, chronicling the life and times of the late Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, evokes the U.K.'s Manchester music scene of the late '70s and early '80s with post-punk and punk classics of the era. CONTROL (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) presents music by post-punk legends Joy Division alongside influences and contemporaries including David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, Velvet Underground Iggy Pop, the Buzzcocks, Roxy Music and Kraftwerk. Among the disc's highlights is Joy Division's signature song “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” the single released shortly before Curtis' suicide and which became their breakthrough hit. New Order, the group formed by Joy Division's remaining members after Curtis' death, is represented with several tracks including “Hypnosis,” “Get Out” and “Exit.” Also featured is a newly recorded cover of the 1979 Joy Division classic “Shadowplay” by The Killers. Taking its title from Joy Division's stand-out song “She's Lost Control,” Control made its worldwide debut in 2007 at the Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim and crowd enthusiasm - just one day shy of what would have been the 27th anniversary of Ian Curtis' passing. The biopic, shot in black and white, marks the directorial debut of world-renowned photographer Anton Corbijn, famed for images of U2 and Depeche Mode, among many others. Control stars relative newcomer Sam Riley as Curtis and Samantha Morton as his wife and eventual widow Deborah Curtis, on whose memoir, Touching From A Distance, the film is based (she also co-produces). Giving the movie four out of five stars, The Times (UK) wrote, “Most rock biopics fail to convey the mixture of exhilaration and tedium that band life entails. But Corbijn has done his research during 30 years as a photographer, striking a realistic balance between farce and tragedy. Crucially, Control feels authentic in its concert footage, a detail very few music films get right...Overall, Control treats Curtis and his legacy with respect but not stifling reverence...it makes for a handsome and lyrical drama.” Distributed by The Weinstein Company, the U.S. begins its U.S. release in October 2007 Selection # 333372 You really should take a look at these:TRACK LIST - Click song title to listen to a sample
