“…much like the power ballad, Manilow will never go out of style.”
 - TVGuide.com, December 2007

The 2-DVD set SONGS FROM THE SEVENTIES finds Barry Manilow blissfully at home with the music and the setting in an intimate live performance filmed for a December 2007 PBS television special. It was shot at Steiner Studios at the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard, a location that Manilow tells the audience is, “right down the block from where I grew up in Williamsburg.” As the pop music icon revisits and celebrates both his roots and the songs of a decade that saw his rise to superstardom, Manilow answers the question posed by the title of one of his own definitive '70s hits featured herein, “Could It Be Magic?” Indeed it is.

SONGS FROM THE SEVENTIES is an ideal DVD companion to Manilow's latest smash album The Greatest Songs Of The Seventies, which debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart in late 2007. Presented by Rhino in association with STILLETTO Television, the double-disc title features the entire PBS special in 5.1 Surround Sound on Disc 1, with Disc 2 boasting an unaired mini-concert of alternate performances, along with rare behind-the-scenes footage. David Mallet, who directed the artist's previous PBS special, Barry Manilow: Music And Passion (also available on Rhino, and for which Manilow won an Emmy® Award), served again as director.

Besides “Could It Be Magic,” the set list features other Manilow gems from the '70s including “Mandy,” the GRAMMY®-winning “Copacabana (At The Copa),” and the especially fitting “New York City Rhythm.” A spirited medley works in other vintage Manilow hits including “Can't Smile Without You,” “Even Now,” “I Made It Through The Rain,” “This One's For You” and “I Write The Songs.”

Manilow also delivers inspired interpretations of classic songs from the seventies originally made famous by other artists, and makes them his own for this landmark performance. Such highlights include “It Never Rains In Southern California,” “My Eyes Adored Your,” “If,” “He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother” and “The Way We Were.” The unaired outtakes on Disc 2 include “The Way We Were Medley” and glimpses into the making of the PBS special.
