FILTERThe Very Best Things (1995-2008)$11.98 CD The first-ever Filter retrospective, THE VERY BEST THINGS (1995-2008), delivers 14 of the band's most memorable tracks including studio recordings and rare radio edits as well as songs previously available only on soundtrack albums. Throughout, the career-spanning single-disc compilation from Rhino spotlights the rare mix of power and finesse that distinguishes Filter's body of work to date. Fronted by lead vocalist and guitarist Richard Patrick, Filter formed in Cleveland, Ohio in the early '90s. They broke out in 1995 with the platinum debut album Short Bus and hit single “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” which Rolling Stone called, “a timely combination of grunge heat and industrial ice, raw emotion riding a steel pulse of digital rhythm.” It opens this 14-song set, which also reaches back to Short Bus with the stand-out track “Dose.” Following the band's evolution, THE VERY BEST THINGS contains five cuts from Title Of Record-their 1998 platinum Billboard® Top 40 follow-up-including “The Best Things” and rare radio edits for “Welcome To The Fold” and “Take A Picture,” a #12 smash. Highlights from 2002's The Amalgamut include “The Only Way (Is The Wrong Way)” and the single edit version of “Where Do We Go From Here.” With “Soldiers Of Misfortune,” the collection pulls from Filter's studio output up through their acclaimed and politically charged 2008 album Anthems For The Damned. In addition to its studio releases, Filter is well known for the songs they've contributed to a number of popular soundtrack albums-the only place they've been available until now. THE VERY BEST THINGS gathers several, including: the savagely intense “Jurrasitol” from The Crow - City Of Angels; “(Can't You) Trip Like I Do,” their collaboration with The Crystal Method for Spawn: The Album; and “One (Is The Loneliest Number)” and “Thanks Bro,” recorded for different X-Files albums.
