LUNAThe Best Of Luna$18.98 CD The first-ever retrospective from the modern rock favorites unites their major-label and indie-era best. Seventeen tracks spanning 1992-2004 include "Tiger Lily," "Slide," "Moon Palace," "Superfreaky Memories," and the epic "23 Minutes In Brussels." When they formed in 1992, Luna were a true indie-rock supergroup, boasting singer-guitarist Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500, former Chills bassist Justin Harwood, and ex-Feelies drummer Stanley Demeski, among others. With a heavy dose of dream pop, strategic reverb, and smartly minimalist songcraft, their 1992 Elektra debut, Lunapark, drew major acclaim, as did 1994's Bewitched, which features Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison on several tracks. Penthouse and Pup Tent followed, along with personnel changes and a 1999 shift to indie status, but the band's string of elegantly produced and sonically resonant albums continued.
