T. REXElectric Warrior (Expanded & Remastered)$17.98 Vinyl $17.98 CD
David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and this cosmic 1971 classic are the twin totems of glam-rock. This expanded, remastered release features seven bonus tracks, including a previously unreleased acoustic version of “Planet Queen” and an interview excerpt from 1971. The accompanying booklet features unseen archival photos, restored LP artwork, and liner notes by British music expert Sean Egan. It’s a gas! With Marc Bolan’s T. Rex, the blues got its first pair of platforms since Little Richard. Uniting lust, fantasy, and the 12-bar shuffle within the slickest of production packages, Electric Warrior forged a teen-friendly sound that would long prosper as “glam.” Seeing U.S. chart action courtesy of the timeless “Get It On (Bang A Gong),” the album would serve more as an oracle from which rockers far and wide would glean chops and style. Bowie would make use of the sonic sheen; punk rockers would employ its musical primitivism; and ’80s hair bands would take Bolan’s glitzy persona as a model for performance excess. As with most imitation, there’s nothing like the real thing. Electric Warrior sounds fresh today thanks to the stripped-down showing of its strongest suits. The riffs couldn’t be any fatter, or Bolan’s swagger any sexier. Pump it all through the shimmering production of virtual band member Tony Visconti, and you’ve got primal rock ’n’ roll in one of its most satisfying forms. Also available on 180-gram vinyl and DVD-Audio. DVD-Audio version features 5.1 surround, 24-bit advanced resolution, and video bonus features.
