BELLYSweet Ride: The Best Of Belly$9.86 CD The first and only collection from the modern rock dream team. A single disc crammed with 18 tracks, including rarities (“Broken” from Mallrats, Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced) plus two previously unreleased recordings. Modern-rock fixtures Belly were fronted by Rhode Island-born singer-guitarist Tanya Donelly (formerly of Throwing Muses and The Breeders), and included bassist Gail Greenwood, guitarist Tom Gorman, and drummer Chris Gorman. The group scored hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to catchy pop melodies, layered, swirling guitars, and dark musical intrigue. Signed to Britain’s seminal 4AD label, Belly debuted in 1992 with a pair of U.K. EPs -- Slow Dust and Gepetto -- and followed with their 1993 album Star, which rocketed to #3 in the U.K. In the States, Sire/Reprise issued Star, which, with the help of the chart-topping “Feed The Tree,” went gold. That same year, the band was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy®. After 1995’s also-successful King album, Belly split up, with Greenwood joining L7 and Donelly going solo.
