LIDSVILLEThe Compete Lidsville: Episodes 1-17This title is no longer available from Rhino Handmade. However, numbered copies from the original edition may be available at select retailers. For those of you who do not automatically find yourself flashing back, let us remind you that Lidsville followed the Great Adventures of a boy named Mark, played by actor Butch Patrick, who had earlier portrayed wolf-boy Eddie Munster on The Munsters. Intrigued by the miracles he witnesses performed by Merlo The Magician, the inquisitive boy from Jackson City is soon trespassing in Merlo's dressing room, whereupon he discovers that Merlo's hat has been left unattended. Indeed, this is a Magic Hat, which, after Mark peers inside to divine the magician's trade secrets, begins to vibrate and buzz as all Magic Hats are wont to do. Startled by this, Mark drops it on the floor and then watches as the hat continues to grow to an enormous size. He climbs up on the brim, attempting to look inside, but loses his balance and falls into a bottomless hole. Mark is magically and deliciously transported to Lidsville, which, as anyone knows, can be found "On Magic Maps, Where The Mountains Wear Mountain Caps, Lined With Welcome Mats." This community -- which is not to be confused with Nitty-Gritty-Ville -- is populated by, what else? Giant Talking Hats. All told, 17 half-hour episodes of Sid And Marty Krofft's Lidsville were produced for ABC, which began airing on Saturday mornings as of September 11, 1971. Incidentally, Lidsville ran for another season on ABC, but this second season was comprised entirely of repeats of the first season. Afterwards, the series moved to NBC for one more season of Saturday morning reruns, before ending its run in August 1974. Rhino Home Video released a single VHS tape at retail in 1999 that contained two Lidsville Episodes and a boxed set commemorating all of the work of Sid & Marty Krofft plus one additional episode. This left 14 Lidsville episodes still collecting dust in the secret Krofft attic. Your friends at Rhino Handmade, each and every one a lover of hats that can speak, have gone back to the original Lidsville sources and have lovingly placed all 17 original episodes -- all in colour and all recorded at that modern a-go-go VHS 'SP' speed -- on four convenient VHS tapes that fit into one convenient box. The Complete Lidsville: Episodes 1 To 17 VHS Box Set is available as an individually-numbered limited edition of 3,000 copies. Selection # 8701 Not Rated/Color/SP.
