VAN MORRISONMoondance (Vinyl)$24.98 Vinyl
Mercurial Irish soul man and poet-balladeer Van Morrison originally rose out of the Belfast scene with Them, a group he formed in the early '60s that delivered the seminal rock hit “Gloria.” In his subsequent solo career, Morrison went on to become one of the most celebrated music artists on the planet, fusing pop, rock, R&B, soul, jazz, Celtic folk and more in a way that continually defies easy categorization. His 1970 masterpiece MOONDANCE is a transcendent work that was Morrison's first to enter the Top 40 on Billboard's pop albums chart, introducing signature classics including “Caravan,” “And It Stoned Me,” “Into The Mystic,” “Come Running” and the indelible title track. On 180 gram virgin vinyl from Rhino, the album's warm, full, magical sound is a revelation. MOONDANCE followed up 1968's Astral Weeks, another of Morrison's critically revered masterworks. Like its predecessor, MOONDANCE is suffused with spiritual energy, but shines with more of a sense of hope and renewal and joy. In Rolling Stone's original review of the album, Greil Marcus and Lester Bangs wrote, “the striking imagination of a consciousness that is visionary in the strongest sense of the word create an atmosphere that instantly sets its own terms. Morrison's powers are clear: his strong gift for melody, his ability to move freely within virtually any sort of contemporary instrumentation, his verbal magic as inventive and literate as Dylan's, and most of all, the authenticity of his spirit.” 180 gram virgin vinyl editions of the Van Morrison titles His Band And The Street Choir and Astral Weeks are also available from Rhino.com.
