Van Morrison
VAN MORRISONHis Band And The Street Choir (Vinyl)$24.98 Vinyl Mercurial Irish soul man and poet-balladeer Van Morrison originally rose out of the Belfast scene with Them, a group he formed in the early '60s that delivered the seminal rock hit “Gloria.” In his subsequent solo career, Morrison went on to become one of the most celebrated music artists on the planet, fusing pop, rock, R&B, soul, jazz, Celtic folk and more in a way that continually defies easy categorization. Morrison's brilliant 1971 LP HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR - a Billboard Top 40 album - is an R&B flavored gem that delivered his highest charting single, “Domino” (#9). Other song classics include “Blue Money” and “Call Me Up In Dreamland.” On 180 gram virgin vinyl from Rhino, the album's rich sound comes superbly alive. HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR followed up two of Morrison's seminal masterpieces, 1968's Astral Weeks and 1970's Moondance. In reviewing it for Rolling Stone upon its original release, Jon Landau wrote, “HIS BAND AND THE STREET CHOIR is another beautiful phase in the continuing development of one of the few originals left in rock. In his own mysterious way, Van Morrison continues to shake his head, strum his guitar and to sing his songs. He knows it's too late to stop now and he quit trying to a long, long time ago. Meanwhile, the song he is singing keeps getting better and better.” 180 gram virgin vinyl editions of the Van Morrison titles Moondance and Astral Weeks are also available from Rhino.com.
