CONWAY TWITTYConway Twitty #1's: The Warner Brothers Years$11.98 CD Iconic country superstar Conway Twitty's chart-busting Warner Bros. years are surveyed on this powerhouse compilation of his stratospheric string of '80s hits. A Country Music Hall of Famer, Mississippi-born music legend Conway Twitty started his career playing rock 'n roll in Memphis, Tennessee during the seminal era of Sun Record. Twitty was briefly signed to the label that begat Elvis, but none of his sides were released. Later recording for MGM Records, his first taste of major success came with the 1958 Billboard #1 pop hit, “It's Only Make Believe,” which he also co-wrote. It was Twitty's shift to country music in the 1970s that forged his enduring superstar status, however. His rich, rugged, down-home vocals resonated with country and pop audiences throughout the '70s and '80s, and he scored a still-record forty #1 Billboard country singles before his 1993 death. Posthumously inducted into GRAMMY®'s Hall Of Fame, he amassed a remarkable 55 #1 hits factoring in all the charts and genres on which he made his mark. This hit-packed, ten-track single-disc collection is a vivid snapshot of Conway Twitty's chart-topping best for Warner Bros., his label for most of the '80s. Highlights include the #1 singles including “Don't Call Him A Cowboy,” “Desperado Love,” “Slow Hand,” “Somebody's Needin' Somebody,” “The Rose” and more.
