Jane's Addiction
JANE'S ADDICTIONA Cabinet Of Curiosities (Standard Edition)$59.98 CD The first-ever Jane's Addiction box of any kind, A CABINET OF CURIOSITIES is a 3-CD/1-DVD collection that focuses solely on vintage material from the band's classic original line-up: Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Eric Avery (bass) and Stephen Perkins (drums). It's the same legendary line-up hitting the road in 2009 for the first time in almost two decades (the last time was 1991's inaugural Lollapalooza tour, Perry Farrell's brainchild). Rhino's Deluxe Limited Edition of CABINET sold out almost immediately, but for those still curious, fear not: the slipcase edition features all the same sonic wonders, bonus DVD and 60-page booklet. This four-disc celebration of the band's seismic origins emphasizes demos, live cuts and rarities-30 of the 43 audio tracks are previously unreleased, totaling over two hours of fresh material. It's an extensive, off-the-beaten-path audio chronicling of Jane's during the era that spawned the landmark albums Nothing's Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo Habitual (1990). The bonus DVD is a visual companion piece loaded with videos and rare live footage from the same period, and each disc comes in its own individual digipak inside the slipcase. Disc One opens with five songs recorded during a 1986 session in Venice, CA, including a previously unissued version of “Jane Says.” The disc's 11 other cuts are unreleased demos from 1987, early renditions of future Jane's classics including “Three Days,” “Ocean Size,” “Classic Girl,” “Summertime Rolls” and “Stop!” Disc Two highlights include previously unissued demos for “Ted, Just Admit It…” and “Maceo,” a 12” remix of “Been Caught Stealing,” the Dead cover “Ripple” and a rehearsal of “My Time.” Live material includes the “L.A. Medley: L.A. Woman/Nausea/Lexicon Devil” from 1989 as well as four previously unreleased cuts from 1987. Disc Three salutes Jane's Addiction's legacy as a phenomenal live band, presenting a complete, previously unreleased concert from December 19, 1990-the performance was the second show from the band's storied three-night run at the Hollywood Palladium. CABINET's DVD begins with Soul Kiss: The Fan's Video-previously available only on VHS-which features the MTV-banned clip for “Mountain Song.” Also ready to roll are the video for “City,” candid home movies of the band, and all eight music videos from Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual. The disc-and the box-closes out with a trio of unreleased 1990 performances taped in Milan for MTV Italy DVD Track ListSoul Kiss: The Fan's Video 1. Mountain Song -- Unedited Version 2.
