The Best of Buffalo Springfield: Retrospective

Featuring Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, Buffalo Springfield was a supergroup-in-waiting. The Los Angeles band (which also included Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin) had more talent than it knew what to do with, which may be one reason it splintered so quickly - by the time of the February 1969 release of The Best of Buffalo Springfield: Retrospective, the group was history. The Atco collection reveals the creative flame to have been as bright as it was brief, with such classics as “For What It's Worth,” “Mr. Soul,” “Kind Woman,” “Bluebird” and “Broken Arrow” among 12 tracks drawn from three albums. While Young, Stills and Furay each went on to greater commercial successes, Retrospective shows their Buffalo Springfield work to be among their most artistically rewarding.
