Album of the Day
1. Outside (The Nathan Adler Diaries: A Hyper Cycle)
Some 15 years after their storied Berlin trilogy, David Bowie and producer Brian Eno collaborated again on 1. OUTSIDE (THE NATHAN ADLER DIARIES: A HYPER CYCLE). “We were both interested in nibbling at the periphery of the mainstream rather than jumping in,” noted Bowie of the 1995 collection, which explores a dystopian fusion of art and crime through a Twin Peaks-styled murder mystery. The presence of veterans like guitarists Carlos Alomar and Reeves Gabrels and such outstanding songs as “Hallo Spaceboy” and “Strangers When We Meet” make the character-driven concept album more accessible. Originally released as a 13-track cutdown of 1. OUTSIDE, an exclusive clear vinyl Record Store Day release will feature the remastered audio for the first time, cut to half-speed at AIR studios, London.
