One of the most exciting Contemporary Christian rock bands, Skillet formed in Memphis in the mid-'90s and had several releases to their name before 2003's COLLIDE earned the group a Grammy nomination and brought them to Atlantic Records. Tours with Saliva and Shinedown and the 2006 release COMATOSE set the stage for Skillet's mainstream breakthrough, AWAKE. Produced by Howard Benson, the album's arena rockers and power ballads feature uplifting lyrics that will connect with listeners of any faith. Among the dozen tracks are singles “Hero” and “Monster,” which earned plenty of exposure on sports TV as well as radio. We’ll cue up the double-Platinum AWAKE to wish Skillet singer John L. Cooper a happy 50th birthday.
