Moving away from the corporate environment to record in a church in Delganey, County Wicklow, and an old Georgian house in County Cork, Ireland, BOYS FOR PELE altered the course of Tori Amos' career. “This is the record where I fought for my life,” noted the singer-songwriter; reeling from a painful break-up, she penned an ambitious and uncompromising batch of songs about mythology (Pele was a Hawaiian volcano goddess), suppression and self-discovery. The self-produced set got a rapturous reception, debuting at #2 on the album charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. Featuring fan favorites “Caught A Lite Sneeze” and “Hey Jupiter” as well as “Professional Widow” (which topped the U.K. Singles and U.S. Dance charts in an Armand Van Helden remix), BOYS FOR PELE just celebrated its 30th anniversary and remains among Amos’ very best.
