Album of the Day
Bruised Orange
After several years at Atlantic Records, John Prine moved to Asylum for BRUISED ORANGE and as before, his label debut was a keeper. The 1978 collection was cut in Chicago with fellow Windy City native Steve Goodman perfectly matched as producer. Prine’s sharp observational skills and gentle humor come to the fore on ten songs highlighted by opener “Fish And Whistle,” “Sabu Visits The Twin Cities Alone,” the title track and “If You Don't Want My Love” (co-written by Phil Spector, of all people). With the singer-songwriter in strong voice and guest appearances by Jackson Browne and Ramblin' Jack Elliott, BRUISED ORANGE is a real peach. This Record Store Day, John Prine can be heard live on BBC radio playing songs from his first two albums – performances getting their first official release on a 140-gram black vinyl LP.
