Betty Wright’s second album, I LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE, arrived almost four years after her first time around and the 19-year old singer’s growth is plain to hear. The 1972 set was produced by Willie Clarke and Clarence Reid (a popular performer himself) and the duo penned the bulk of the songs here, including minor R&B hits “Pure Love” and the title track. But it was “Clean Up Woman,” co-written with Betty, that really launched her career, reaching the Top 10 on the Pop chart. With accompaniment from fellow Miami music luminaries Benny Latimore and guitarist Willie “Little Beaver” Hale, Wright’s tell-it-like-it-is takes on romance are irresistible.
